The Gap Year

I don't know why I am sitting in Huntsville, Alabama. I mean, I know why, because I grew up here, and because I am going to school at Calhoun Community College this year to save some money. But I don't know why as in the "everything happens for a reason" explanation. You see, last year I was a Tennessee Volunteer. I absolutely fell in love with everything there: the sports, the weather, the amazing friends I met, the orange! Unfortunately I live in Huntsville, Alabama, so the out of state tuition was a killer, and I couldn't go back...this year. I will get back there eventually. I will do whatever it takes. For now, I'm doing the one thing that keeps me from going insane (besides playing with my dog): writing.

~Temporary pause to say this: I am about to tell something completely different than what would logically follow the preceding paragraph. The two thoughts will connect at the end. Please stay tuned.~

When I was a freshman in high school, I went to London. I enjoyed many aspects of London, but probably the best thing was the scenery. And by scenery I mean the pictures of Prince William. So I began to read about the royal family, and found that Prince William took a gap year after he graduated before attending a university. I thought, "I WANT TO DO THAT!" and for the longest time, that was my plan. I was going to take a year off and see the world. Then I realized that in order to partake in the luxuries of the royal family, you must have equivalent money of the royal family. Needless to say, I never went on my gap year.
Now for the connection. Since this year is my "year off" (Although not really because I am taking classes full time and working two jobs) I am going to make it my "gap year"... American style. Just because I am stuck in the Rocket City, doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. I'm not sure how I am going to afford it, when I am going to do it, or what I am actually going to do, but when opportunity knocks this year, you better bet I am opening the door. And hopefully somewhere along the way I will find out the real reason why I am in Huntsville, Alabama.
But right now the only opportunity knocking is the opportunity to climb into a warm bed and read a book. Who knows what tomorrow will bring in my quest for adventure?
I'll keep you posted...
